Agritech and Safety Lab's Research Overview
This page provides a brief summary of our key research areas in agricultural safety. Click the buttons below for detailed information on each topic.
1. Agricultural All-Terrain Vehicle Safety
We’ve developed an ATV safety test station to evaluate stability and roll bar performance, funded by CDC/NIOSH through the Western Center for Agricultural Safety and Health (WCAHS). Research includes static and dynamic stability tests, plus experimental and computational rollover simulations.

2. ATV Fitment & Safety Checklist and Youth and Female Operator Capabilities
Focused on ensuring ATVs are safe for youth and female operators, this research identifies design mismatches and develops a safety checklist. It’s supported by CDC/NIOSH and CS-CASH, with tools like the Vive Tracking System and an ATV Fitment App in development.

3. AgroGuardian System
AgroGuardian is an innovative safety system that predicts, detects, and notifies responders of ATV rollovers using AI and sensors, enhancing real-time monitoring and accident response in agriculture

4. Heat-Related Illness Prevention
Aimed at protecting farmworkers from heat stress, this research uses weather stations across California to monitor environmental conditions and develop mitigation strategies.

5. Agricultural Robotics and New Technologies Safety
This project explores the safety challenges of robotics and AI in agriculture through literature reviews, safety assessments, and pilot projects to ensure worker safety alongside innovation.
